Gift bags + $100 gift card + wine = party at Aldila this Thursday

A trunk show and 20% off clothing at Aldila this Thursday
Hello, LBD. I hear you calling my name!

I love awesome perk-filled shopping experiences, and I just caught wind of a fantastic one. It’s at Aldila, a women’s fashion boutique whose Willow Park store I fell in love with last fall. (Deets on that here.) But their big deal event is a trunk show that’s happening this Thursday, November 16 at their Westhills location in Calgary. Aldila has kindly offered a $100 gift card to one lucky Travels with Baggage reader. Read the full post for deets on how to win.

Gift bags + discounts + wine = party at Aldila this Thursday
The merchandizing at Aldila is spot on.

What to expect from a trunk show

If you’re into fashion, trunk shows are a total rite of passage. People go to trunk shows to see the latest trends for the upcoming season. It’s an awesome way to see what colours and styles are headed our way in 2018. If you’re like me and not a fashionista, trunk shows are a quick and easy way to stay current.

It’s one thing to glance at trends from a magazine, but it’s quite another to see them firsthand – and to figure out how they’d fit into your wardrobe. Pro tip: bring a few of your own favourite pieces (jeans, favourite skirt, etc…) to see how trunk show pieces can be incorporated into what you already own.

Not only are trunk shows a great preview of soon to be released items, you can use them as an opportunity to pre-order anything that you fall in love with. Thursday’s trunk show at Aldila is all about Joseph Ribkoff, one of Canada’s leading designers. Joseph Ribkoff has four collections a year, and each collection has over 250 items. A boutique like Aldila can’t order absolutely every item in, but at the trunk  show, it’s a cinch to order something exclusively for you. I still have have my eye on this red number below from Ribkoff’s Fall 2017 collection.

I so love the body con Joseph Ribkoff dresses. Very Kate Middleton I think.

What’s happening at Aldila’s trunk show on Thursday

At Thursday’s trunk show, there’ll be sales reps from Joseph Ribkoff who can help with fittings, answer any questions about the collection and (I’m hoping) dish on fashion gossip. What is up with those fashion bloggers, anyway?

The best part? All day there’ll be door prizes, light refreshments (wine!) and nibbles, plus gift bags and a one day discount on everything in store. On Thursday only, Aldila is offering 25% off everything in store. (This doesn’t include special orders from Joseph Ribkoff though.)

Loving the lace detail on this beachy number.

What to buy at Aldila

Besides the Joseph Ribkoff line, there’s a host of others worth sussing out at Aldila to get your 20% discount. I’m crushing on their collection of denim. They carry MAC Jeans, Yoga Jeans (love!), Liverpool Jeans and NYDJ. These brands hit every price point and the fabric is super comfy.

Aldila carries staple brands that customers come back for, but each season they source new ones no one other boutique in Calgary has. They even have their own house brand: Aldila Designs.

Aldila is like my secret weapon. Everybody knows when you’ve boughten something from J. Crew or Banana Republic. But when you wear something picked up at Aldila nobody (I know) guesses where you’ve gotten it from. They change out their displays pretty frequently. I’m so lazy, all I do now is point to a mannequin and say, “I’d like that outfit, please.”

I don’t think at Aldila, I just point and get made over. Easy peasy.

The importance of fit as we get older

I’m at that age, where I want to look good and fashionable, but without being a slave to the latest trends. News flash: I’m not in my twenties anymore. I want quality and a great fit. Before I popped into Aldila last year, I was worried it would be an old ladies store. It wasn’t. They have super cute sweaters, great accessories and loads of dressed up casual clothes that can take you from work to dinners out.

Totally crushing on that faux fur collar. It’s glam without being too OTT, don’t you think?

Whenever I try anything on at Aldila, the super friendly (not pushy) sales reps are all over making sure it fits correctly. They are dressing you, in your woman’s body to look your best. It’s not about snagging super trendy pieces that only look good on teens or women with no curves.

So, will I see you on Thursday at Aldila? I hope so! This trunk show is going down from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. It’ll be a total celebratory, festive atmosphere. Just the thing to get you and I into the holiday spirit. To win the $100 Aldila gift card, simply comment and follow Aldila’s Facebook page or Tweet them @aldila_boutique using two of these hashtags: #ilovemyJR (my personal favourite) or #josephribkoff or #aldilaboutique. Link me into the Facebook post @TravelswithBaggage or Twitter so I can record who’s entered. Alternatively, you can comment here to let me know you’ve done it. Connect with Aldila on social before 10 a.m. this Thursday when I’ll be doing the draw.

  1. I’ve never been to a trunk show and sorry I’m missing it Thursday night. But throw my name in the hat because who doesn’t love $100 off some fabulous new find.

    1. Great! I’ll be there around 4pm. If you see a blonde with seriously bad hair you’ll know you’ve found me.

I absolutely LOVE Aldila Boutique! This sale looks fabulous. Nothing better than finding a real gem for a great price! Followed on both Facebook and Twitter and commented on each! Fingers crossed!
