Dirty Blonde

I used to think the reason I didn’t wash my hair all the time was because I was a slacker. Now I know better. And before I get too carried away, let me set the record straight: I do shower. Frequently. But more often than not, I put my hair up instead of washing it each time I shower.

Best drugstore dry shampoo

My good friend Meredith, a savvy dixie from South Carolina, gave me the hard word one day about my hair (more on that later). One of her tips was for me to start using a dry shampoo. She recommends Pssssst! Instant Dry Shampoo from Walgreens in the US.

Pssst… the secret’s out.

And when your hair looks as good as Mere’s, you do what she says. That’s Meredith on the left and me on the right, after my hair intervention.

Me and my best London mate Mere.

Now I’m converted. Not only does dry shampoo cut hair prep time significantly, it’s actually better for your hair than washing it everyday. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that it’s easy to score a bottle that’ll last for months for under $10.

I’ve also used and liked the results from Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oatmilk, available at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada and recommended by Goop, Gwyneth Palrow’s blog.

So here’s what you do:

  1. Pick your hair up in sections and and spray each section gently at the roots (not too much, or your hair will turn white).
  2. Allow it to sit for about two minutes and soak up the oil.
  3. Brush your hair out and style as normal. Sometimes I take a blowdryer to my hair before brushing if I want extra oomph.

And there you have it! Have you ever tried dry shampoo? What did you think? Do you have any fantastic hair tips to share? I could use all the help I can get.
