The best Jasper accommodations for every traveller and budget

Stunning, yet approachable, Jasper National Park is one of my favourite spots in all of Canada. I know from first-hand experience, having lived in Jasper, accommodations can vary. You want to get just the right spot depending on if you’re travelling as a couple, with friends or family.

Jasper Accommodations

What’s unique about the majority of Jasper accommodations is that they’re set up naturally for physical distancing. Never before have I seen so many adorable cabins in one mountain town. Even most of the hotels have guest rooms with exterior doors (so you can avoid the lobby), and often your own patio and bbq.

There are plenty of things to do in Jasper, so wherever you stay, you’ll want to spend at least two nights. More is better. Many people road trip from Banff to Jasper, but of course, arriving via Edmonton is popular too, and there are a few standout hotels near the east park gates. It was hard narrowing this list down, but edit we must! Here’s a look at my favourite hotels and hideaways in Jasper National Park.

Pyramid Lake Jasper National Park
Pyramid Lake Resort grants you exclusive access to one of Jasper’s prettiest lakes.

Pyramid Lake Resort

An easy five-minute drive from downtown, Pyramid Lake Resort is all about location, location, location. Here, it feels like you’re world’s away in your own little bubble. Cute chalet-style rooms sit on the edge of Pyramid Lake under the majestic Pyramid mountain – one of the prettiest peaks in the Rockies.

Rooms come with a fireplace, Keurig coffee maker, mini fridge and microwave. There are loft suites and full kitchenettes, too. I most appreciated the deep tub and the tranquility. Best is that you have fast access to canoes and kayaks to take out on Pyramid Lake. Yes, this is the only resort in Jasper with exclusive – steps away from your room – access to tranquil Pyramid Lake.

Bear Hill Lodge

These cabins on the edge of town look sweet from the outside, but inside Bear Hill Lodge is even more charming. Our cabin had a fireplace, two bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs, and a full living area upstairs.

With a daybed and pull out couch, we could’ve easily slept seven here. I adored our cabin’s modern mountain vibe almost as much as I loved the luxe L’Occitane amenities, full fridge with freezer and live edged wood dining table.

Because we don’t have cable at home, turning on the TV is usually the first thing my daughter does in a new hotel. Her first action after exploring our Bear Hill Lodge cabin was grabbing a book and sitting on the balcony. After an hour of reading she decided to go climb the little hill she spied from her perch. When you can get a teen reading and exploring outdoors on their own, you know you’ve got a winning property.

Our patio delivered direct views of Whistler’s mountain, and you’d never know you were in town but for the convenience of shops a few blocks away. Bear Hill Lodge could be Jasper’s best kept secret.

Miette Mountain Cabins

I’ve always wanted to stay at these delightful log cabins just past the east gates to Jasper National Park on the Yellowhead Hwy 16. Fret not, it’s only a half hour drive into the town of Jasper itself, but if you’re coming in from Edmonton or Hinton, you’d be forgiven if you stopped here and never made it any further.

This summer, I finally had the chance to stay at Miette Mountain Cabins and my expectations weren’t out of line. Framed by snow-capped peaks and minutes away from Miette Hot Springs, the property is a mountain retreat bursting with charm.

How adorable are these Miette Mountain Cabins?

Our cabin had a vaulted pine ceiling, full kitchen, dining area and fireplace. After a hot bath, I climbed up the legit wooden staircase into an oh-so comfy bed and fell promptly asleep before 10 pm. If this is cabin living, I’ll take it!

Because of COVID (when I visited), the hot tub and restaurant aren’t open, but who cares? You’ve got a full bath, seasonal heated outdoor pool (so fun!) full kitchen and outdoor dining area at your disposal. Bring in your own supplies and Bob’s your uncle.

Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

One of the most unique Fairmont lodging experiences is found at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. The last time I stayed here, I was with my daughter and dog to take in the Dog Days of May event, celebrating everything pup related.

Luxe rooms can be found in the lodge itself and in individual cabins framing Beauvert Lake. You’ll want stroll around this lake – possibly the prettiest in the park, and take advantage of the canoes on offer. Activity-wise you’re spoiled for choice. In the summer months their stable is in full operation as is their famed golf course. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge sports a full service spa, gorgeous heated outdoor pool and trails that link the property with nearby lakes.

The Crimson

Cheap and cheerful, I remember staying at The Crimson when it was The Amethyst back in the day. Fortunately it’s had a major overhaul with granite bathroom countertops, a large shower, mini-fridge and microwave. Because we had so many leftovers all the time, I really did appreciate their disposable paper plates and eating utensils, plus all the bathroom all amenities including hair conditioner and make up wipes. Not every hotel gives you these…

The Crimson is situated right on Connaught Drive, Jasper’s main drag, so you can easily walk to the shops, restaurants and bars and not have to worry about diving or parking. This pet friendly property also sports and indoor pool, hot tub and exercise room.

Overlander Mountain Lodge

Full disclosure, I didn’t overnight at Overlander Mountain Lodge, but I wish I would’ve. You can rent an entire two or three bedroom chalet or bed down in the romantic lodge. Like Pocahontas Cabins, it’s outside of the town, and near the east Park gates.

Dining at the lodge’s Stone Peak restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip. My daughter ate the entire certified angus beef tenderloin we were supposed to split, but I was just as happy with coho salmon and risotto. The three course tasting menu was crazy good value – especially it you paired it with wine for only an additional $25.

Spread it on the patio and soak up summer.

In my notes, I wrote, ‘This is probably the best patio in the Rockies.’ A little research reveals it was actually voted best patio in all of Alberta by Venture magazine. Overlander Mountain Lodge is a gem of a spot I need to learn more about.
