Attention shoppers! American Girl has just opened its first boutique in Calgary. Located inside the newly revamped Indio Kids at Chinook Centre, you now have two reasons to shop or browse for inspiration before the holidays. (And don’t forget those polar bears will be set up soon.) Here’s a look at what to expect.
Indigo Kids
Expanding their previous footprint by a whopping 5,200 sq. ft., consider this your one stop shop for Christmas, birthday parties or even outings with the kids. There are big toys, little toys, retro Fisher Price toys, games, a LEGO section, the list goes on. The expanded experience still relies on pillars such as creativity (lots of make believe costumes and craft supplies) and building and design. The brass at Indigo realize folks shop all categories, so they’ve made our shopping experience seamless from books to toys to baby wear.
I was particularly pleased to see The Honest Company featured. They produce eco-friendly, yet beautifully designed durable products for babes and toddlers. Stuff like diapers, wipes, sun screen, etc…
Need stocking stuffers? You’ll find them lining the shelves right by check out. Loads of stickers, crafts, mini lego figurings, Shopkins….. All good stuff easily within reach of busy hands. Forewarned is forearmed.
And yes, there are books. So many books. Fabulous children’s books are arranged by age group. You’ll find all the best brands, including Usborne, my fave. Now that my daughter is older, we’re all over the American Girl books. Their advice library is the bees knees. Parents of tweens might want to consider picking up YOU (puberty), The Smart Girl’s Guide to Money and that age set can’t get enough of the quiz books.

Alberta’s first AG boutique is kitted out in its signature style (lots of pink!) and though pricy, this is one brand I can get behind thanks to its empowering messages to girls. The store (within a store) isn’t a large as the multi-level stores you’d find in the states, but it’s still well curated with American Girl’s most iconic collections, including the Girl of the Year® and most importantly, lots of darling accessories, so your girls can be all matchy-matchy.

Best is this location has a Doll Hair Salon, where American Girl fans can treat their dolls to a new hairstyle or ear piercing. In addition, child-friendly events and programs will be slated throughout the year.
Is anyone in your family into American Girl? Will you check out the new store and expanded Indigo Kids?
