Cuisine et Château Culinary Centre Opens

Just in time for the holidays, a new cooking school has opened in Calgary. I love taking cooking classes, so last week I popped round to Cuisine et Château, and checked out their offerings.

I come from a family that’s moderately confident in the kitchen. Some of my siblings really know their way around the kitchen, some screw up jello (for real) and I muddle along somewhere in-between. In short, I can use all the help I can get.

Cuisine et Château serves up demo and hands-on courses in the heart of Kensington. I’m keen to try Lunch in a Rush ($29), a 50-minute demo-class where you watch a gourmet (Italian, Thai or French) lunch being prepared. Then you eat it, and get to take home the recipes and skill set.

Did you know that on Christmas Eve in France it’s traditional to serve 13 different items for dessert? Me neither. You can learn all about the traditional French fete during French Christmas ($89), a learn and dine course on December 19.

What’s different about this cooking school from many others, is that you’ll actually make ALL the items you eat (unless it’s a demo class).

“We’re not just giving recipes, we’re giving techniques,” says owner, Thierry Meret.
